Kick-off Pilot Project Jordan - Madaba

We are pleased to announce kicking-off the implementation of the WEFE Nexus Pilot Project in Jordan, in partnership with GreenTech in Amman on the 29th of February, 2024. The pilot is part of the WEFE Nexus Hub project funded by SIDA, and implemented in partnership with UfM. The pilot project is planned to demonstrate the integrated management of the interlinked components of (Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem) WEFE in Theban, Madaba Governorate using harvested water to grow selected crops through a Hydroponic system that is operated by solar energy.
The kick-off meeting was participated by INWRDAM, GreenTech, and Hamsa Ordoneyah for Development and Training, which will be the final beneficiary of the pilot. The project will create at least 10 job opportunities for local people, considering a percentage of 50% of the total workers as women. The pilot will secure decent work conditions for the workers under direct supervision of INWRDAM, where all workers will benefit social security, and wages following the national labor law.

The design of the pilot includes 10 greenhouses for hydroponic farming systems, that are operated by solar energy. The harvested water from Al Wala dam will be used to artificially recharge the groundwater wells nearby the farm, that will be used for the irrigation.
